Corinthians 12
For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is
Christ.
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
For the body is not one member, but many.
If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?
But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.
This work is somewhat of a departure for me... This piece was definitely a work in progress. It honestly gave me so much grief. However, through discussing the piece with many helpful people, I found a conceptual direction and a sense of clarity in the midst of an aesthetic on which I was fixated. This piece draws from the idea of the body and the Body; playing up the parallel between the body as flesh and body as a spiritual body, connected through Christ. My work has diverged from an exploration into what it is that makes a home and has increasingly become focused on the body and its symbolic elements. Hopefully, there will be a way to allow these patterns and themes to converge. If not.... you know, whatever. Art is art and it goes as it wills... Who am I to squander the art? I need to loosen up anyway.
