Amongst other things, I continue to work on my series of works based on the concept of Home. Recently, I found a new mode of expression for my developing ideas. I am calling my new concepts "memory homes" and I will work this semester on that theme. My works are getting larger, more expressive, (more impressive?). Anyway, I am pulling from multiple sources and making a more conscious effort to allude to art historical and contemporary sources. For example, in my painting "Lights" (featured below), I am envisioning the work as a melding of inspirations. The memories of my birthplace mesh with contemporary influences such as Mark Bradford's cityscapes. I wanted the work to be as if Whistlers "Nocturne in Black and Gold- The Falling Rocket" met Seurat and had a baby together.
